Thomas P. O’Leary joins the Board of Governors
The newest member of Mount Royal’s Board of Governors is Thomas P. O’Leary. A partner at Dentons, a multinational law firm, O’Leary’s diverse advocacy practice includes energy litigation, regulatory hearings, environmental claims, class actions and a broad spectrum of commercial disputes. He is also a member of the Board of Directors for the Calgary Stampede and is very involved in his community.

Nominate a professor for a Distinguished Faculty Award by March 6
Nominations for the 2020 Distinguished Faculty Awards are now open. Each year, members of the Mount Royal community ― faculty peers, managers, students and alumni ― nominate professors in recognition and in celebration of outstanding work. Review submission guidelines and nominate a professor at mru.ca/DFA.

Sign up for the 2020 Research and Scholarship Days
Campus-wide Research and Scholarship Days events will take place from March 30 to April 9. Complete this expression of interest to share a presentation about your recently published books (January 2019 to present). Join the popular Faculty Lightning Talks by completing this expression of interest. Both are due Feb. 25. Please also encourage students to share a poster, creative work or presentation as part of events March 30 and 31. Students can register online until March 9.

More options for eats on campus
The Station coffee shop is open again in the Roderick Mah Centre for Continuous Learning (EC). Hours of operation are from 7:45 a.m. to 2:15 p.m., Monday to Friday. Drop by to support The Station in providing more options for good eats on campus.

Two books for Taras
Professor David Taras, PhD, Mount Royal's Ralph Klein Chair in Media Studies, has co-authored a new book titled The End of the CBC? with Professor Christopher Waddell, PhD, of Carleton University. The book is described as "about three overlapping crises: the crisis that has enveloped the CBC, the crisis of news and the crisis of democracy." Taras has also co-edited a book with Routledge titled Power Shift? Political Leadership and Social Media.

Computing book recognized for creativity and impact
Professor Randy Connolly, PhD, of the Department of Mathematics and Computing, received an award from the Canadian Education and Research Institute for Counselling in recognition of the impact of the first edition of the book, Computing Careers & Disciplines: A Quick Guide for Prospective Students and Career Advisors, which was co-authored by Professor Faith-Michael Uzoka, PhD, and Janet Miller, PhD. The book is now in its second edition.

Start of semester emails, with option for distribution list sign-up

As each semester begins (August/September and December/January), areas with ongoing employee activities can send an email to all employees describing their semester activities. Employees can then choose to opt in to that area's distribution list (Google Group) for regular updates. If you would like to send an email and/or set up a Google Group for your area, please contact Marketing and Communications for guidelines.
