Your campus card will soon be replaced by a new OneCard
Between Friday, Aug. 9 and Thursday, Aug. 15, and beginning with non-faculty areas, Security staff will visit offices across campus to exchange your campus card for your new OneCard, which will be usable right away. This is a new campus-wide system made necessary by technological change. Any employee cards that are not distributed in office areas will be available at the Security office at West Gate. Frequently asked questions are posted on the Campus Store web page.
Developing high-impact talent roundtable for faculty and administration
On Aug. 26, the Institute for Innovation and Entrepreneurship and the Career Services department are leading a research program exploring Calgary’s dynamic labour market. Pride crosswalk painting begins Thursday
Starting today and continuing until Monday, Aug. 12, the Pride crosswalk located between the Riddell Library and Learning Centre and the Arts building is getting a fresh coat of paint. Please avoid the area while work is being carried out.
Academic Plan Implementation Committee
The Academic Plan Implementation Committee is leading a campus-wide consultation on personalized learning in response to recommendations in the 2017/2022 Academic Plan, Planning to Flourish. A day-long Community Conversation will be held on Friday, Aug. 30, featuring Peter Felten, PhD, of Elon University, plus another invited guest, to be followed by workshop sessions. There is no cost to register here. Focus groups will also be held on Aug. 22, Aug. 26 and Sept. 3. Register for a focus group here.
Library Family Room is now open
The University Library now offers a private space for parents on campus to pump, nurse, or care for children while completing assignments.The Family Room (EL2416), located on the second floor of the Riddell Library and Learning Centre, is a bookable room open to students, faculty, and staff to reserve online. Bleed Blue – Celebrating MRU
Research examines how public health authorities advertise to racialized groups
Associate professors at the Bissett School of Business, Mohammed El Hazzouri and Leah Hamilton have concluded that public health authorities need to re-examine how they advertise to racialized groups. Through a series of four studies — partially funded by MRU's Internal Research Grants Fund — the pair has noted an interesting backlash effect. Read more.
Institute for Community Prosperity publications creating external buzz
The Ottawa-based organization Future of Good has created a series of blog posts featuring the co-written work of James Stauch, director of the Institute for Community Prosperity, based on the initial publication of "Why AI Needs the World of Social Impact." In addition, The Canadian CED Network is helping to disseminate "The Problem Solver's Companion," a guide to social enterprise.

Start of semester emails, with option for distribution list sign-up
As each semester begins (August/September and December/January), areas with ongoing employee activities can send an email to all employees describing their semester activities. Employees can then choose to opt in to that area's distribution list (Google Group) for regular updates. If you would like to send an email and/or set up a Google Group for your area, please contact Marketing and Communications for guidelines.
