MRSA credit course tuition reimbursement

Update on Collective Bargaining from the MRFA

Diversity and Inclusion survey results
Last summer, 50 per cent of MRU employees completed Mount Royal's first Diversity and Inclusion Survey, which was created by Campus Equity and Meaningful Inclusion in partnership with the Canadian Centre for Diversity and Inclusion (CCDI). The Survey Dissemination Team has been working through the extensive resulting data since fall 2017. The first CCDI report is comprised of self-reported demographics of MRU's employee complement. The team will continue to share the results.
Safety training mandatory for all employees
All full- and part-time employees are required by provincial legislation to complete safety training. Mount Royal is offering this mandatory online training via Blackboard. It takes 15 minutes to complete and the deadline is June 30. Follow these instructions to take the training. Read more about Environmental Health and Safety at Mount Royal.

On behalf of Environmental Health and Safety, everyone is reminded to take steps to stay safe in the sun. Avoid prolonged exposure; seek shade; wear a hat and sunglasses; apply sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or above and drink plenty of water.
SAMRU Pride Centre moving
At the end of August, the SAMRU Pride Centre will be moving from its current location to Z211 (currently the Volunteer Hub). SAMRU’s Relationships, Identity and Sex Programmer, Tanya Ross, will be conducting a live Q&A about the move on June 25 at noon on the SAMRU Facebook page. SAMRU will be accepting questions for the next month at SAMRU.ca/PrideCentreMove.
IT and Security Services emergency power upgrade
From June 9 to 10 during the hours of 11 p.m. to 7 a.m. the emergency power system will be upgraded in Faculty of Arts, Bissett School of Business and main buildings. There will be no emergency power distribution available. Fridges in the Science and Technology wing and Wellness will be provided emergency power. No other fridges will be affected. Alumna Roisin Dillon brings home top prize at Oxford University’s global competition
Mount Royal University’s nursing alumna (and former valedictorian) Roisin Dillon won the top prize at the prestigious Oxford Map the System Challenge at Oxford University over the weekend with a passionate submission and presentation highlighting possible solutions to the opioid crisis in Canada. Bachelor of Nursing graduate publishes in undergraduate journal
Recent Bachelor of Nursing alumnus Josiah (Michael) De Los Santos has published an article in a new interdisciplinary undergraduate journal created through the University of Alberta called Spectrum. The article evolved out of a major paper/final assignment for Professor Sonya Jakubec's spring/summer 2017 course on critical mental health promotion. Read more.
Mount Royal team wins Calgary hackathon
A team of Mount Royal students and alumni took first place in the Play category of the City of Calgary's Hackathon, held May 26 and 27. The group developed a prototype (not an app) called Near Here to encourage community members to share their favourite destinations reachable on two feet. Read more.
Mount Royal alumnus translated during Germany’s surrender in Holland
A June 1 Globe and Mail article featuring Dr. George Molnar, who as a captain in the Canadian military during the Second World War translated during Germany’s surrender in Holland, made mention of Molnar’s time spent at Mount Royal before enlisting. Molnar passed away on May 28 at the age of 95, and was the last surviving person in attendance at the capitulation. Read more.

Start of semester emails, with option for distribution list sign-up
As each semester begins (Aug./Sept. and Dec./Jan.), areas with ongoing employee activites can send an email to all employees describing their semester activities. Employees can then choose to opt in to that area's distribution list (Google Group) for regular updates. If you would like to send an email and/or set up a Google Group for your area, please contact Marketing and Communications for guidelines.
