Comprehensive People Plan launched
The employee section of Mount Royal's new Welcome Back site contains a link to the People Plan, which details MRU's plan for phasing some employees back in to working on campus, how to seek approval to return, protocols for being on campus and controls for communicating symptomatic cases. Those overseeing others should become familiar with the People Plan and ensure their team is aware of its content.


Shortcut to mandatory daily health declaration form
Employees working on campus will see an icon on their desktop today that is a shortcut to the Welcome Back site, giving quick access to the mandatory daily health declaration form.


New cybersecurity training tool rolling out to all employees
IT Services is introducing a new cybersecurity awareness training tool: the Security Education Platform by ProofPoint. Between now and Aug. 17, you’ll receive a notification email with instructions on how to access the course you’ve been enrolled in, which will depend on your role. If you do not receive a notification email by Aug. 17, visit the Cybersecurity Hub to register. More information.

Watch your inbox: phishing training emails resume
ITS’s phishing training program is resuming after being put on hold in March. Phishing emails are sent quarterly to different employees to better assess how effectively people can spot and report a phishing email. Report suspicious emails by clicking the new PhishAlarm icon (a small white envelope) in the task panel to the far right of your inbox. Additional details are available on the Cybersecurity Hub. Catamount Fellowship applications open Aug. 1
The Catamount Fellowship for Emerging Changemakers applications are now open. Encourage outstanding students to apply at mru.ca/Catamount. The eight-month program invites undergraduate students to explore social change in their community by participating in research with local organizations.

Massage therapy, acupuncture, athletic therapy and custom orthotics have resumed at the MRU Injury & Prevention Clinic, along with the continuation of physiotherapy and chiropractic services. Book an appointment online today and deal with that lingering pain that’s been building up.

Why computing belongs within the social sciences
Faculty of Science and Technology professor Randy Connolly was the featured author of the cover article for the August edition of the Communications of the ACM (CACM), which publishes leading academic research in the computing field. Connolly’s article looked at computing and the role it plays in the social sciences.

Associate professor featured in New York Times
Alexis Morris, former Canadian skeleton athlete and now associate professor in the Faculty of Science and Technology, was featured in a New York Times article about sledding athletes and the effects that high-speed crashes have on their brains. In 2013, Morris used an accelerometer called a gForce Track to measure the g-force created during a skeleton run to look at the impact on the body.

Start of semester emails, with option for distribution list sign-up

As each semester begins (August/September and December/January), areas with ongoing employee activities can send an email to all employees describing their semester activities. Employees can then choose to opt in to that area's distribution list (Google Group) for regular updates. If you would like to send an email and/or set up a Google Group for your area, please contact Marketing and Communications for guidelines.
