New president's website launched
With the arrival of Mount Royal's tenth president and first vice-chancellor , Tim Rahilly, PhD, a new Office of the President website has been launched. Information about the president's priorities, committee activities, and messages and speeches can be found at mru.ca/President.

Convocation volunteers needed
Spring convocation ceremonies will be held Wednesday, June 5, Thursday, June 7 and Friday, June 8. As always, volunteers are needed to help celebrate the achievements of Mount Royal's students. Sign up to be a gowner/marshall or a ceremony volunteer.

Hiring a research assistant?
Human Resources has developed an information sheet titled "How To Hire a Research Assistant" to help with the process. Additionally, the Riddell Library and Learning Centre is offering co-working spaces for MRU student research assistants this summer. Librarians are happy to provide training in advanced searches, data and citation management, and the use of discipline-specific resources.

MRSA credit course tuition reimbursement
June 14 is the deadline for MRSA members to apply for up to $500 of tuition reimbursement for a credit course at an accredited post-secondary institution. Download the application form. SoTL grant opportunities now open in Romeo
The Institute for the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (ISoTL) is now accepting applications via Romeo for the following 2019 opportunities: Essential SoTL Grants with Criteria, Special Topics Grants, TransCanada Collaborative SoTL Grants and Undergraduate Student Dissemination Grants.

Search for new chief information officer
Campus stakeholders are being consulted to provide their input on the needs for the position and the ideal individual to helm Mount Royal's Information Technology Services. The hope is to have someone in place by fall.

Messy work spaces can be a health and safety hazard
Health and safety includes maintaining a clean work space. Spring clean your work space: dust, remove clutter and recycle old paperwork. Learn more about why it's important.

Fruit trees to be planted
Mount Royal has been awarded a $3,500 grant from Trees Canada and the Pembina Institute to plant native Alberta fruit trees on campus. The fruit will be available for students to eat, with any that is not picked to be given to the students’ association’s Peer Support Centre. The location of the trees will be shared once they are planted.

Meet a new Mount Royal Wellness Hero
Each month, Wellness Heroes showcases Mount Royal employees who incorporate wellness into their daily routine. Meet Angie Smith, academic advisor and instructional assistant with the Department of Child Studies and Social Work, who is working on bringing a sense of community to her department and facilitating self-care opportunities for her co-workers.

Mount Royal is among the country’s only campuses with a digital carillon. The 60-foot-high Kerby Memorial Tower and digital carillon, located beside Charleton Pond, chimes hourly between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m., and plays four full songs daily: two at noon and two at 6 p.m. Read more.

Associate dean of the Faculty of Arts, Joe Anderson, PhD, was recently appointed to a five-year term as the Alberta member of the Historic Sites and Monuments Board of Canada.

Environmental humanities collection published
Professor Robert Boschman and Associate Professor Mario Trono of the Department of English, Languages and Cultures’ edited collection, On Active Grounds: Agency and Time in the Environmental Humanities, has just been published by Wilfrid Laurier University Press.

Professor appears in documentary series
Instructor Carolyn Willekes, PhD, of the general education and humanities departments, has appeared in a documentary series produced by Lion TV for the Smithsonian Channel titled Rome's Chariot Superstar. The series is available on Amazon Prime.

Discovering 'what’s next?' in the field of Canadian women’s and gender history
Reading Canadian Women’s and Gender History, a new book co-edited by Department of Humanities Associate Professor Carmen Nielson, PhD, has been released by University of Toronto Press.

Start of semester emails, with option for distribution list sign-up

As each semester begins (August/September and December/January), areas with ongoing employee activities can send an email to all employees describing their semester activities. Employees can then choose to opt in to that area's distribution list (Google Group) for regular updates. If you would like to send an email and/or set up a Google Group for your area, please contact Marketing and Communications for guidelines.
