Graduation celebration June 3 and 4

Until we're able to mark graduation more formally, we want to celebrate with our new alumni virtually. New grads can use #MRUgrad on June 3 and 4 to post celebratory photos, videos, memories of MRU and to connect with other grads and alumni. Faculty and employees are encouraged to participate, too.

Copyright guidelines for faculty leading online courses
Most instructors know how copyright applies to in-person classes, but it's not always clear how the law changes when material is sourced and shared online. The Library has answered the most common questions around copyright from faculty who are creating and adjusting class content to now be delivered remotely. Learn more.

New, easier way to report phishing emails
Your Gmail account now includes a 'PhishAlert' button for reporting suspicious emails to ITS. While the email is open, click on the PhishAlarm icon on the right-hand side panel and then click 'Report Phish.'

Remove old Chrome extensions to enable new Google Meet grid view
First, remove the "Chris Gamble" grid view extension if you previously installed it on your device. Open Google Meet, then click on the three dots in the top right corner of the Chrome browser bar next to your account information. Select 'more tools' / 'extensions'. Then remove the old extension. Next, click on the three dots in the bottom right corner of Google Meet. Choose 'change layout' and select your preferred view. More information.

The cybersecurity stickers are going digital
With almost everyone working from home, the popular cybersecurity stickers are now available digitally. Visit the MRU Cybersecurity Hub to download the newest sticker. Add it to your email signature and email bpasteris@mtroyal.ca to get your contest entry code.

Environmental Health and Safety wants to hear from you
EH&S wants to know your perceptions of health and safety at MRU so the team can concentrate efforts on improving EH&S processes and communications. Please take this five-minute anonymous survey. Share your thoughts on the University's responsibilities, your responsibilities and how you're involved in health and safety within MRU.

Did you know?
The Charlton Pond is named after former head of security Bob Charlton, who created the annual Big Bob's BBQ in support of Mount Royal's Transitional Vocational Program. The pond is actually used to irrigate the campus, with 3.5 kilometres of irrigation mainlines.

Art gifted for special nursing journal's Indigenous edition
Members of the School of Nursing and Midwifery Lisa Bourque Bearskin, PhD, (Beaver Lake Cree Nation), and Associate Professor Andrea Kennedy, PhD, (Settler and Métis ancestry), are guest editors for Nīpawīstimatowin ― “Bearing Witness for One Another." This edition is grounded in Canadian Indigenous discourse and worldviews, focusing on nursing’s role in truth and reconciliation, Indigenous health and well-being and the necessity to decolonize nursing in Canada. Mount Royal's Iniskim Centre's Medicine Trail Coordinator and artist Dion Simon (Ermineskin Cree Nation) gifted an inspiring image for this special edition.

Health, Community and Education students garner national recognition

Fourth-year Bachelor of Nursing student Andrew Nguyen, third-year Bachelor of Child Studies student Samantha Petite and third-year Athletic Therapy student Taylor Tsakoza were recently selected as recipients of the National Student Leadership Award in Health, Community and Education. The Canadian Association of Health Sciences Deans initiated this National Student Leadership Award Program in 2014.

Department of Education garners award
The Alberta School Councils’ Association (ASCA) has recognized the work of Connect Charter School, Tsuut’ina Education and Mount Royal University with the Excellence in Learning Partnerships Award. This award recognizes partnerships that include the school council, and support parent and community involvement in education to benefit the community and enhance the learning experience of students.

Start of semester emails, with option for distribution list sign-up

As each semester begins (August/September and December/January), areas with ongoing employee activities can send an email to all employees describing their semester activities. Employees can then choose to opt in to that area's distribution list (Google Group) for regular updates. If you would like to send an email and/or set up a Google Group for your area, please contact Marketing and Communications for guidelines.
