President Docherty appointed president of Brandon University
Sue Mallon, chair of the Board of Governors, has let the campus community know that on May 1, 2019, President David Docherty will become the president of Brandon University. Docherty will remain president of MRU until this date. The campus community congratulates him on his new position and thanks him for his many contributions. Read more.

Provide input into president position profile
You have knowledge and experience that will be valuable as the Board of Governors and Presidential Search Committee seek a successor for our current president. On Tuesday, Aug. 21 and Friday, Sept. 7, the executive search firm Boyden will hold focus groups on campus to obtain your input. More dates and times here or contact mrupresident@boyden.com.

Aug. 11 and 12 power outage in all buildings except main Lincoln Park building and East Residence
Most of campus will experience a nearly complete electrical shutdown from 11 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 11 until 6 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 12. All buildings, except the main Lincoln Park building and East Residence, will be impacted. The EC building, East Parkade and West Residence (people will move to Residence Building B for the night) will experience a complete blackout. There will be no access to affected buildings, limited lighting and no power to workstations or fridges. Please shut down all computers and empty fridges before leaving on Friday, Aug. 10. Overnight power outage in main Lincoln Park building from Aug. 16 to 17
The main Lincoln Park building will have an almost complete electrical shutdown from 11 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 16 to 5 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 17. There will be limited lighting, no power to workstations or fridges, no heating or cooling and no access to the building. Please shut down all computers and empty fridges before leaving on Thursday, Aug. 16. Any questions? Call 403.440.6417. 

New Student Orientation volunteers needed
Welcome our incoming students to the amazing Mount Royal community Sept. 4 and/or Sept. 5 during New Student Orientation. Various positions and times are available. Learn more and sign up online.

Sign up for access to Adobe Creative Cloud or Acrobat DC
The licensing structure for Adobe Creative Cloud and Acrobat DC has changed, resulting in fewer licenses for end users. Existing licenses were removed Aug. 8 and will be re-issued based on job requirements. Labs will have Adobe Creative Cloud installed based on usage. If you require either program, please fill out this form, get approval and then scan and send to the licence manager.

Sharing information with employees
There are many ways to share information with employees. Every other week, Our Community goes to over 3,000 people and has a 45 per cent open rate. Areas can also send a newsletter at the start of the fall and winter semesters. Emails to all employees are for strategic, must-know today to do your job and emergency content. IT: Working with Google Docs

This Google Docs training covers using headers and footers, adding hyperlinks, inserting comments and suggestions, wrapping text, viewing previous versions and including a table of contents. Register.

Start of semester emails, with option for distribution list sign-up

As each semester begins (Aug./Sept. and Dec./Jan.), areas with ongoing employee activities can send an email to all employees describing their semester activities. Employees can then choose to opt in to that area's distribution list (Google Group) for regular updates. If you would like to send an email and/or set up a Google Group for your area, please contact Marketing and Communications for guidelines.
