Changes to transit routes at Mount Royal
Starting on Dec. 23, Calgary Transit buses will pick up and drop off passengers at raised, heated platforms along Richard Road instead of on Mount Royal Circle at the East Gate. The West Gate bus circle remains unchanged. Calgary Transit will be holding a pop-up session at the East Gate loop with their information bus and staff available to answer questions. Early timesheet deadlines and paydays in December

Paydays occur earlier in December because of the holiday closure. For the Dec. 13 payday, timesheets are due Dec. 11 from employees and Dec. 12 from approvers. For the Dec. 23 payday, the paper source deadline is Dec. 11; timesheets are due from employees on Dec. 31 and from approvers on Jan. 2, but please submit your timesheet before leaving for the holiday break. For convenience, link the payroll calendar on MyMRU to your Google calendar.

Remember the Dec. 11 holiday mix and mingle
All employees are invited for a holiday mix and mingle on Wednesday, Dec. 11, from 2:15 to 4:30 p.m. at the Bella Concert Hall. Take in a 40-minute holiday concert at 2:30 p.m. featuring a performance by award-winning alumna Kate Stevens, plus others. Then enjoy refreshments with your colleagues in the lobby.


Mandatory fire drill Jan. 21 at 10 a.m.

This practice fire drill is expected to take about 20 minutes and will include an evacuation of all Lincoln Park campus buildings except Residence. Learn more about fire drills at MRU. For fast notifications, download the new MRU Now safety app for iOS and Android.

ADC Project Support for 2020/21

Each year the Academic Development Centre (ADC) collaborates with MRU departments and programs by working with faculty members to support eLearning and major curriculum design/redesign projects. The ADC is currently accepting applications for projects for the 2020/21 academic year.

Stop and think before you click

Cybercriminals target employees with emails that elicit an emotional response and urge quick action. Stop and think when you see a link or attachment in an email, especially if you feel any strong emotions. Don’t reply to the sender, but do call the person it appears to be from to verify the email and any request. Visit the cybersecurity hub for more information.

A medal for Moorman
Professor Lynn Moorman, PhD, of the Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences was a recipient of the Royal Canadian Geographical Society 90th Anniversary medal for work done for Canadian Geographic Education as the post-secondary representative. In addition, Moorman was also recently named to the editorial board of the Journal of Geography.

Off to the big leagues
Jon Yeoh, a graduate of the Conservatory Academy Program and alumnus of the Calgary Youth Orchestra, has been awarded a position with the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra’s bass section.

Hand-made strings make it to the stage
Calgary Youth Orchestra member Spencer Mung recently brought his hand-made violin to the stage, a project two years in the making. Mung was encouraged by Conservatory faculty member Chris Sandvoss and taught by Natanael Sasaki, a local luthier known for repairing a cello owned by a refugee that was damaged by militant gunfire as the musician was leaving a performance.

Start of semester emails, with option for distribution list sign-up

As each semester begins (August/September and December/January), areas with ongoing employee activities can send an email to all employees describing their semester activities. Employees can then choose to opt in to that area's distribution list (Google Group) for regular updates. If you would like to send an email and/or set up a Google Group for your area, please contact Marketing and Communications for guidelines.
