Ten MRU faculty awarded tenure
President Tim Rahilly, PhD, has granted tenure to ten associate professors from Mount Royal's four credit faculties and the Library. Congratulations to Professors Bhatti, Catena, Cave, Hughes, Jackson, Jung, Loyer, Olfert, Swallow and Upadhyaya. Thank you to everyone on the University Tenure and Promotion Committee for your recommendations to the president under the leadership of Lesley Brown, PhD, provost and vice-president, Academic.

Hats off to Convocation volunteers
Convocation would not be as successful as it is without the help of the entire Mount Royal community. Thanks to everyone who took the time to make each of the five ceremonies special. Watch this quick video recap of the events here.

New Security process for requisitioning keys

The process for requisitioning a new key from Security has been moved to the Archibus system. Submit all requests using Frontline.

Fake protest next Tuesday
As part of a photoshoot booked on campus on Tuesday, June 18, from approximately 3 to 5 p.m., models will be staged to appear as though they are at a protest or sit-in. Be assured that this is not a real protest. Depending on the weather, the locations of this activity will either be at the Riddell Library and Learning Centre's southeast steps, the East Gate lawn, or the space between EA and the science wing.

Annual space audit began June 10

Over the next two months, Facilities Management staff will be entering all rooms to update space information. Pictures may be taken to record the condition of finishes, furniture layouts and equipment. Contact Tiffany Hansen at 5578 or Grant Sommerfeld at 6419 with any questions.

Empty fridges in main building for weekend power outage

The main building will be closed overnight on both Friday and Saturday between 11 p.m. and 7 a.m. for electrical work. Because of interruptions to power, please empty fridges, save computer work and shut down computers before leaving today.

Walk Wednesdays coming soon to campus

On Wednesdays throughout July and August, enjoy a recreational walk with colleagues around campus. Meet inside at the top of the stairs by the Recreation entrance at noon every Wednesday, rain or shine. Everyone is welcome. Contact Janine Clouthier in Human Resources at 5669 for more information.

Campus store courtyard now open

The courtyard next to the campus store is open daily from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. After building new decking last fall, Facilities Management has installed seating and waste and recycling bins to make the space comfortable and usable.

Did you know...
To beautify the campus on a budget, the Grounds team keeps annuals in the greenhouse to take cuttings from each year and place in Mount Royal's gardens and planters. Other annuals are sourced from reputable growers in Alberta.

Bleed Blue – Celebrating MRU

MRU winner of the Star Metro Calgary 2019 Community Choice Awards
Mount Royal was chosen by the public as the winner of the Best Post-Secondary Education Institution category for the Star Metro Calgary 2019 Community Choice Awards, beating out nine other options.

Student chosen for cover of science magazine
Earth and environmental sciences student Nikita Kahpeaysewat was chosen as the cover story for the 2019 spring issue of Winds of Change, a publication created by the American Indian Science and Engineering Society. Kahpeaysewat comes from the Moosomin First Nation, which is near the town of Cochin, Sask. Read more.

Start of semester emails, with option for distribution list sign-up

As each semester begins (August/September and December/January), areas with ongoing employee activities can send an email to all employees describing their semester activities. Employees can then choose to opt in to that area's distribution list (Google Group) for regular updates. If you would like to send an email and/or set up a Google Group for your area, please contact Marketing and Communications for guidelines.
