Announcements

June 30 deadline for mandatory safety training
All full- and part-time employees are required by provincial legislation to complete safety training. Mount Royal is offering this mandatory online training via Blackboard. It takes 15 minutes to complete and the deadline is June 30. Follow these instructions to take the training. Read more about Environmental Health and Safety at Mount Royal.

Space audit underway July 2
The annual audit of campus spaces will begin July 2 and continue for two months. Facilities Management staff will visit all rooms to update information regarding space, furniture and amenities. More information and an approximate schedule can be found in the FAQ section of the Facilities Management website.

Library launches new service platform
The Library has launched a new service platform featuring a cloud-based LibrarySearch function, along with updated user guidelines, to better align with present-day demands. Mount Royal community members now have access to term loan periods for collection items, can request already-borrowed items and take laptops out for longer periods of time. More information.

Ideas Visualization Lounge summer schedule
Throughout the summer, events and activities are taking place at the Ideas Visualization Lounge in the Riddell Library and Learning Centre. Join in on Movie Mondays, TED Talk Tuesdays, Web-Based Games Wednesdays, Technology Thursdays and Video Game Fridays. Check the calendar often. More information.

New associate vice-president hired for Human Resources
Trika MacDonald will join MRU on July 16 as the new associate vice-president (AVP) of HR. She joins us from the University of Saskatchewan where she was the director of Integrated Human Resources. With an MBA in Human Resource Management from Royal Roads University, MacDonald brings a blend of post-secondary, private sector and government experience. Read more.

Director of the School of Nursing and Midwifery announced
Starting July 1, Professor Paula Price, PhD, begins her term as director of Mount Royal's School of Nursing and Midwifery. During her 27 years at Mount Royal, Price has served as interim director for the school and as acting chair for the advanced specialty health studies department. She has also been an active scholar and teacher in the critical care nursing program and is the current editor for the Canadian Journal of Critical Care Nursing and the Canadian Journal of Cardiovascular Nursing.

Aboriginal Youth Award goes to Mount Royal student
For the second year in a row a Mount Royal student has been named the recipient of the City of Calgary's Aboriginal Youth Award. Wacy Little Light, a member of the Siksika Nation, credited the support of his family, community and the Iniskim Centre at Mount Royal University for his success. Last year the award went to business student Latasha Calf Robe.

Start of semester emails, with option for distribution list sign-up

As each semester begins (Aug./Sept. and Dec./Jan.), areas with ongoing employee activities can send an email to all employees describing their semester activities. Employees can then choose to opt in to that area's distribution list (Google Group) for regular updates. If you would like to send an email and/or set up a Google Group for your area, please contact Marketing and Communications for guidelines.
