Teknion recognized for climate change leadership

Wednesday, January 20, 2016

Teknion Corporation, a sustainable furniture design firm, has been named a leader in carbon emissions reduction in Canada. Teknion was recognized for the quality of information on climate change it discloses to investors and the global marketplace through CDP.

CDP is an international not-for-profit that helps drive sustainable economies. CDP’s climate change program scores companies for two assessment criteria: performance and disclosure. Teknion achieved a disclosure score of 98 out of a possible 100, and a performance score of B, with A being the highest possible.

The performance score assessed how much action the company took on climate change mitigation, adaptation and transparency, with a high performance score indicating a company is measuring, verifying and managing its carbon footprint. A firm can achieve a high score by setting and meeting carbon reduction targets and implementing programs to reduce emissions in direct operations and the supply chain. The disclosure score indicates how well a company responds.

“Teknion’s first line of defense in reducing carbon emissions is investing in technology that reduces them at the source,” said Scott Deugo, Teknion’s chief sales and sustainability officer, in a press release. “We voluntarily set mandates for environmental initiatives as part of our business and corporate citizenship. Investing, improving and developing new technology to mitigate climate change not only reduces our carbon pollution but also earns support from stakeholders, clients, architects, designers and CDP.”

Teknion was given a position on the Canada Climate Disclosure Leadership Index (CDLI), news which was released in the Canadian edition of CDP’s annual global climate change report to coincide with COP21, the recent UN climate change conference.

Thousands of companies submit yearly climate disclosures to CDP. Teknion achieved its position on the CDLI by falling within the top 10 per cent of organizations that participated.
