Friday, December 4, 2015

BOMA BEST has announced that its Sustainable Workplaces pilot project was successfully completed. The aim of the project is to help organizations become more sustainable by providing a standardized management system framework to manage and improve their environmental performance both inside and outside the office.

“Through a process of extensive stakeholder engagement, BOMA Canada identified the need for the new BOMA BEST Sustainable Workplace module. As a new pathway for continual improvement, BOMA BEST Sustainable Workplaces provides a unique way for an organization to obtain recognition of their own sustainability efforts while also supporting sustainable building operations, tenant engagement and employee satisfaction,” said BOMA Canada president and CEO Benjamin Shinewald, in a press release.

“We’re extremely proud of our tenants for participating and succeeding in the BOMA BEST Sustainable Workplaces program,” said Judy Wall, East Port Properties vice president. “At East Port Properties, we encourage and support all of our tenants to participate wherever we can to bring their environmental initiatives to life. Together, we’re creating more sustainable buildings, and better workplaces.”

The project requires organizations to understand, monitor and improve performance in the areas of energy, water, waste, e-waste, space construction and renovation, procurement practices, business and employee travel and indoor air quality. BOMA BEST Sustainable Workplaces was designed to be completed in-house and will be launched early next year.

Already taking part in the Sustainable Workplace pilot project are Husky Energy, East Port Properties, Canadian Association of Petroleum Producers and Cox & Palmer, all in St. John’s, Nfld. and Bentall Kennedy Canada LP in Etobicoke, Ont.
