In what is the first major recruiting drive for people to work in downtown arena district, Gateway Casinos and Entertainment is holding two career fairs this week to fill as many as 200 jobs for its new Grand Villa casino.
The company is planning to open a $32-million, 60,000-square-foot casino this summer in a mixed-use building adjacent to Rogers Place. The upscale gambling, dining and entertainment facility replaces the nearby Baccarat Casino.

“These career fairs mark an important next step as we look forward to the opening of the Grand Villa Edmonton,” said Darcy Romanin, executive general manager of Alberta operations for Gateway.
“Ice District will dramatically redefine Edmonton’s downtown and we are proud to grow our team at this iconic development.”
Gateway also plans to open a $45-million redeveloped property, Starlight Casino Edmonton, at West Edmonton Mall in the fall. It will hire as many as 250 additional employees for that facility.
At both new casinos, Gateway says it will hire up to 500 new employees in Edmonton over the coming year.
