Toronto condo offers free Nissan LEAF to owners

In an effort to encourage sustainability in the Toronto condo market, Minto Westside and Nissan Canada have partnered to offer purchasers of Bside units a free Nissan LEAF, Canada’s top-selling fully-electric car, with the purchase of a parking space equipped with an electric vehicle (EV) charging station.

“Our goal is to design for the future,” said Wells Baker, director of conservation and sustainable design at Minto, in a press release. “Installing EV chargers at Bside gives residents who want a vehicle in the city the ability to make an affirmative environmental decision. That alone is a huge step forward, but we wanted to take that next step and actually incentivize a decision towards the more sustainable option.”

Bside is the second phase of Minto Westside at Bathurst St. and Front St. West. Located within walking distance of a network of streetcar routes, the placement makes sustainable traveling through Toronto accessible.

“Accessible charging is an important consideration when people are looking at buying an electric vehicle and is especially challenging for those living in a condominium or apartment,” said Steven Rhind, director of Marketing at Nissan Canada, in a press release. “Minto Bside’s commitment to integrating EV charging infrastructure is an important step in expanding the adoption of electric vehicles. The added incentive of offering an all-electric Nissan LEAF to buyers is exceptional.”

Minto is widely known as a leader of sustainability and is recognized for developing energy-efficient design-forward spaces. Since 2006, Minto has certified over 2,800 units using LEED programs in Toronto.

“The majority of high-rise buildings are faced with the challenge of overcoming a lack of infrastructure and space required for transformers needed to install electric vehicle chargers,” said Baker. “Bside is aiming to set a new benchmark in Toronto. It’s being developed with a dedicated transformer for EV chargers as well as space to add additional chargers as demand grows.”

Units are available starting in the low $200,000s, featuring state-of-the-art, design-forward suites close to Toronto’s financial district and the planned Block 31, set to be the city’s largest urban school, community and daycare facility.
