Resource Planning Task Force (RPTF) information sessions
The RPTF undertook a year-long stakeholder engagement process to ensure the University has a sustainable and resilient financial planning model. Learn about the recommendations of this task force and next steps for implementation at drop-in information sessions in November. Convocation on Friday
Our students are graduating this Friday at 2 p.m. in the Triple Gym. Starting Thursday, Nov. 2, the Multi-Purpose Room, Stanley Gym and Triple Gym will be closed for preparations, and on Friday, Nov. 3 the Multi-Purpose Room, Triple Gym, Stanley Gym and track level will be closed. Parking will also be busier than usual, so please plan accordingly. Find out more about the ceremony.

2017 United Way Campaign
Mount Royal University is proud to continue its dedication to the spirit of giving by helping those in need through the United Way. Those looking to donate to Mount Royal's United Way campaign can do so easily online or by filling out a donation form located at the Human Resources office on Main Street. You may specify the Mount Royal University Foundation (Charitable Registration Number: 14062 1103 RR 0001) as your desired recipient if you choose. The campaign will run for one month, beginning Nov. 1. More info.

Search for the next Dean of the Faculty of Arts and University Librarian is officially underway
Committee members will lead the process for selecting these faculty leaders — with Knightsbridge Robertson Surrette serving as a resource in identifying candidates from across Canada. An introductory meeting for the Librarian committee is scheduled for Nov. 9, with the Arts committee meeting having already taken place Oct. 26. The finalists will make a public presentation to the community in March, with the successful candidate ideally starting on July 1, 2018.

Anyone and everyone can donate to the food drive
Students are the recipients of food donations to the annual SAMRU food drive. Look for boxes located throughout campus, with collections ongoing through the fall and winter semesters. Donations can also be dropped off at the SAMRU Peer Support Centre. The most-needed items are peanut butter, pasta, pasta sauce, baby food and formula, canned tomatoes, canned fruit and green veggies, canned soup, canned meat/protein and canned fish. More info

The online maintenance request tool is being upgraded to change the approval process and access for move requests. To submit any requests that morning, call 6417.

Campus closed Monday, Nov. 13 for Remembrance Day
Recreation hours will be 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. and the Riddell Library and Learning Centre will be closed. Please note there will be fire alarm testing throughout the day.

Richard Harrison wins Governor General’s Literary Award for Poetry
English Professor Richard Harrison has been announced as the winner of the 2017 Governor General's Literary Award for his collection, On Not Losing My Father's Ashes in the Flood. Publisher Wolsak and Wynn describes the work as, "a generous and enchanting book, one that leaves you, like the poet, thinking about the way 'characters in a novel can escape anything / except their story.'" Bissett School of Business CFA affiliation will result in additional scholarships
The Bissett School of Business’s concentration in financial analysis has been admitted to the CFA Institute's University Affiliation Program. This affiliation is awarded to academic institutions that include a significant portion of the CFA Program Candidate Body of Knowledge. Read more.

Cathy Carter-Snell is helping reduce the risk of the mental health consequences of sexual assault
Professor Cathy Carter-Snell, PhD, of the School of Nursing and Midwifery, has been named one of the 150 Leading Canadians for Mental Health. Carter-Snell’s expertise is changing how sexual violence and trauma are being responded to in domains ranging from university campuses to natural disasters. Read more.

Start of semester emails, with option for distribution list sign up

As each semester begins (Aug./Sept. and Dec./Jan.), areas with ongoing employee activites can send an email to all employees describing their semester activities. Employees can then choose to opt in to that area's distribution list (Google Group), for regular updates. If you would like to send an email and/or set up a Google group for your area, please contact Marketing and Communications for procedures.
