President David Docherty gives address on freedom of speech

On Feb. 28, Mount Royal president David Docherty delivered the keynote address at the Universities Canada conference of Government Relations Officers and
Directors of Communication in Ottawa. The topic of choice was freedom of speech, which Docherty describes as "the most critical issue facing campuses across North America."

Update on faculty collective bargaining from the provost

New information about resource planning redesign, FAQs and new committees has been added to the budgeting portal on MyMRU. Choose Financial Matters, scroll down to Budgeting and click on Resource Planning Redesign Project.

Revolving doors keep out the cold
Please use the revolving doors at the East Gate, West Gate, Riddell Library and Learning Centre and EC entrances ― not the automatic doors intended for people with mobility challenges. Also avoid using the doors closest to Jugo Juice in EA. Every time any of these doors are opened, it sends a blast of cold air into the hallway, driving up heating costs and freezing out the people working nearby.

Scheduled power outage on March 10
On Saturday, March 10 at 7 p.m. there will be an overnight electrical shutdown of the entire main building on campus. This is being done to tie in new green energy infrastructure and complete necessary maintenance work. Please empty fridges and power down computers and other electronics in the main building on Friday before you leave.


Get active your way at Recreation this spring and summer
All activities are now viewable. Registration opens March 22. Swim lessons open at 7 a.m. All other activities open at 12 p.m.

Mount Royal receives funding in support of international internships
MRU will receive up to $82,000 for a period of four years in support of international internships as a recent recipient of the Canadian Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Scholarships program. These scholarships were awarded due to Mount Royal's Sport Leaders International Internship Program. This funding will support 12 MRU international internships ($6,000 each) for qualified students. Finance students headed to 2018 CFA Societies Canada Ethics Challenge finals
Five senior finance students from the Bissett School of Business took home first prize at the CFA Society Winnipeg Ethics Challenge held at the end of January. The win earned the team a spot at the Canadian Ethics Challenge finals, to be held in Vancouver in May. Read more.

Start of semester emails, with option for distribution list sign up

As each semester begins (Aug./Sept. and Dec./Jan.), areas with ongoing employee activites can send an email to all employees describing their semester activities. Employees can then choose to opt in to that area's distribution list (Google Group), for regular updates. If you would like to send an email and/or set up a Google group for your area, please contact Marketing and Communications for procedures.
