Susan Mallon new chair of Mount Royal Board of Governors
Recently announced as the new chair, Susan Mallon has served on the Mount Royal University Board of Governors since 2016. The chair represents the board to the minister of Advanced Education. Mallon says, “I am deeply honoured to chair the board and look forward to working with students, stakeholders, fellow board members and the community to ensure Mount Royal University continues its proud tradition as a first-class post-secondary institution.”

Fire drill Wednesday, Sept. 27 at 10 a.m.
This practise fire drill is expected to take up to 30 minutes. All Lincoln Park campus buildings will be evacuated, with the exception of Residence buildings. Everyone must participate. Learn more here.

Stick to sidewalks and pathways until Sept. 29
Mount Royal's entire underground irrigation system is being drained to winterize the pipes. Water in the pipes will be blown out through the irrigation heads in the grass. For your safety, avoid grassy areas and puddles. The work will be done in stages across campus from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day.

Don't get phished in!
IT Services is implementing campus-wide phishing training to protect employees from malicious emails designed to trick you into performing an action that will compromise your computer, data and personal information. At random times throughout the year, a fake phishing email will be sent out to faculty and staff. Find out more in the MyMRU Announcements.

silent sister wins Robert Kroetsch Award for Poetry
Creative writing professor Beth Everest's (PhD) book of poems, silent sister: the mastectomy poems (Frontenac House) won this year's Book Publishers Association of Alberta's Robert Kroetsch Award for Poetry. Edited by Mount Royal's Micheline Maylor (PhD), silent sister explores the impact of severe illness on the mind, body and spirit.

Bissett grad achieves rare accreditation
Bissett School of Business graduate Jenn Lofgren (2007) chief executive officer and founder of Incito, has recently achieved her Master Certified Coach accreditation – one of only 54 in Canada, and three in Calgary. The designation of Master Certified Coach is awarded by the International Coach Federation, which addresses the standards and ethics of professional coaching.

Start of semester emails, with option for distribution list sign up

As each semester begins (Aug./Sept. and Dec./Jan.), areas with ongoing employee activites can send an email to all employees describing their semester activities. Employees can then choose to opt in to that area's distribution list (Google Group), for regular updates. If you would like to send an email and/or set up a Google group for your area, please contact Marketing and Communications for procedures.
