New chemistry degree launched
On March 14, Mount Royal introduced its 33rd major. Applications are already being accepted for the Bachelor of Science — Chemistry program, starting in the fall with an initial intake target of 30 students, growing to 40 in the years to come.
Building Operations successfully installs complex cogeneration unit
Mount Royal can now generate its own electricity onsite thanks to a new combined heat and power unit installed by Building Operations last weekend. The new unit will generate 750 kilowatts of electricity per year, driving down operating costs and reducing the University’s greenhouse gas emissions by 1,800 tonnes per year.
Solar panels coming soon to E-wing roof
The first solar panels to generate electricity at MRU will be installed later this month. Three sets of panels are planned for the rooftop of E-Wing and will generate 144 kilowatts of electricity to reinforce power supply to the University's IT data centre. Currently, work crews are re-roofing a section of the building to ready it for the installation of the solar panels. Weather permitting, the panels should be operational by the end of March.
Put your napkins and tissues in organics
Tissues, napkins, paper towels and coffee filters all belong in the organics bins located around campus. MRU is charged by weight for garbage. The more we divert from the landfill, the more money we save. Follow our Do the Right Thing campaign on Twitter at #MRUgreen.

Start of semester emails, with option for distribution list sign up
As each semester begins (Aug./Sept. and Dec./Jan.), areas with ongoing employee activites can send an email to all employees describing their semester activities. Employees can then choose to opt in to that area's distribution list (Google Group), for regular updates. If you would like to send an email and/or set up a Google group for your area, please contact Marketing and Communications for procedures.
