University appointments: Van Ham to Vice-President, Finance and Administration, and Nixon to Solicitor
Annalise Van Ham will become vice-president, Finance and Administration at Mount Royal University on Jan. 1, 2018. Amy Nixon has been appointed Mount Royal University's solicitor, leading the Legal Services Team, effective Dec. 1, 2017. More info.

Flu shots available at Wyckham Pharmacy
It's a bad flu season in Calgary. If you haven't gotten your flu shot yet, you can still do so at the Wyckham Pharmacy (Z004). Getting the flu shot is your best defence against the flu. No appointment necessary. Please bring your Alberta Health Care card.

Research indicates a strong future for EAL nursing students
Established in 2009 by Liza Choi, a professor in the School of Nursing and Midwifery, the English As An Additional Language (EAL) Nursing Student Support Program has helped over 250 students. Scholarly work being performed by Choi examining the effectiveness and impact of this program is ongoing and has shown great promise. More info.

Anthropology professor receives key DNA training
Samanti Kulatilake, PhD and professor in Mount Royal’s Department of Sociology and Anthropology, received training in DNA extraction, amplification, sequencing and interpretation at the Paleo-DNA Laboratory, Lakehead University in August 2017. This training will help meet student demand for this kind of knowledge. More info.

Student project helps hundreds in need eat better
Mount Royal community service learning students recently made a big difference in the lives of many through the creation of a pamphlet detailing how Calgary Food Bank clients could better use the food they receive in hampers. More info.

Start of semester emails, with option for distribution list sign up

As each semester begins (Aug./Sept. and Dec./Jan.), areas with ongoing employee activites can send an email to all employees describing their semester activities. Employees can then choose to opt in to that area's distribution list (Google Group), for regular updates. If you would like to send an email and/or set up a Google group for your area, please contact Marketing and Communications for procedures.
